As you may already know from your research, there are currently only two countries in all of Asia that allow surrogacy. Those two countries are India and Thailand. India gets all the attention because the country formally legalized surrogacy and even commercialized it. Thailand has not been so aggressive in marketing surrogacy and has kept more of a low key towards it. However, Thailand is by far the better choice to do surrogacy than India. First, India's infrastructure is horrible. Trying to get around a large city such as Mumbai is a daunting task. The city lacks even basic sidewalks. There is no Skytrain or subway. On the other hand, Thailand has excellent infrastructure. Travelers can easily get around the capital city, Bangkok, with ease. There is a Skytrain that stops at all major attractions and even a subway system that connects travelers to and from major locations around the city. Taxis are almost all air conditioned and the drivers all speak a little English. If the traffic is bad and you are adventurous, you can even hop on a motorcycle taxi and be swift away and off to your destination in seconds.
Another reason why Thailand is a better place to do surrogacy than India is because most fertility hospitals in Thailand practice ethical surrogacy. An ethic committee looks over the entire surrogacy process from start to finish and they are responsible for the welfare of the surrogate mother. These programs currently do not exist in India. In India, surrogates live in dormitory style rooms during gestation and are kept away from their spouses and families. Thailand treats surrogates differently. Surrogate mothers live with their families during gestation where they receive the mental and physical support they will need during the long 9 months. Surrogate mothers are much happier this way and their welfare is looked after. Most of the fertility hospitals in Thailand have a staff that actually cares for the surrogate mother. Each time the surrogate mother has a doctor's appointment, the staff will go to their house and pick them up and take them to their doctor's appointment. This helps remove the burden of traveling alone or dragging their kids with them.
Overall, Thailand receives more medical tourists than India. In fact, last year alone, Thailand received over 1.6 million medical tourists. Also the hospitals are far better than in India. There are currently 15 JCI (Joint Commission International) accredited hospitals in Thailand and most of the doctors have been educated in the West and speak fluent English.
Finally, couples will fall in love with the Thai people and their culture. Known as "The Land of Smiles", Thais are known worldwide for their international hospitality. In fact, Thais smile so often that it is said that they have a smile for every emotion. Thais are warm, friendly people and like to engage in conversation with foreigners. Thais are extremely humble in nature probably because of their devout belief in Buddhism. Over 90% of all Thais are Buddhists. This peaceful religion permeates the Thai culture and influences their daily lives.
